Winter Hand Care

December 5, 2020 by Bethany Sellai Leave a Comment

Winter Hand Care

In December, we usually discuss proper hand washing and sanitizing. Proper hand hygiene should be practiced year round, but December is National Handwashing Awareness Month, and is also cold and flu season. This year, hand washing and hand sanitizing have been constant because of COVID 19, and rightfully so. As a result though, the skin on our hands can take quite a beating in a single day.   Now that the weather is colder, our skin needs to be protected even more. Cold harsh … [Read more...]

Self-Aware of Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is mostly caused from too much exposure to the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays, although man-made UV sources like tanning beds and sun lamps can also lead to skin cancer. There is no such thing as safe UV rays. Prolonged exposure to them increases your risk for skin cancer. All skin types and colors can be negatively affected by the sun. Sun Protection

I realized something the other day about sun exposure and my skin: It is possible for it to be damaged by the sun even in the shade. I was painting a piece of furniture in the backyard and had positioned myself in the shade. I had my water bottle out, remembering to drink regularly. I was staying cool from a light breeze. I felt good, or so I thought. Later I jumped into the pool to cool down and noticed my shoulders felt dry and itchy. A closure look revealed that the skin was already dry and … [Read more...]

UV Safety Month

July 25, 2018 by Bethany Sellai Leave a Comment

UV Safety Month

This month is UV Safety month, and rightly so. California summer temperatures may vary drastically depending on what region of the state you live in but if the sun is out, that sun is brightly beating down in all of its harmful ultraviolet (UV) glory. Too much UV exposure poses the risk of developing skin cancer. One in five Americans will develop skin cancer by age 70, says the skin cancer foundation. Those statistics equal more skin cancer diagnosis than all other cancers combined. Because … [Read more...]
